"Venado Macho" Deer Contest was formed in 1995 by a small town business, "Freer Deer Camp" in Freer, Texas, to be an addition to the Taxidermy and Hunting Retail Business.
In 2010 the organization started supporting Wounded Hero's after a friend's son returned from the Iraq War with a traumatic brain injury. This Hero would need 24 hour care and special equipment to be at home and the Freer Deer Camp saw this as an opportunity to give back. Venado Macho's focus was changed to give back to Wounded Vets and become a 501 (c)(3) Charity Organization.
Venado Macho the Qualified 501(C)(3)Non-Profit Charity changed their name to Wounded Hero's of America in December 2019. This allowed "Venado Macho" to continue as a Deer Contest that supports "Wounded Hero's of America".
One of our largest fund raising events for Wounded Hero's of America each year is the Venado Macho hunting contest. Every hunter that enters is helping a Wounded Hero. Funds are also raised through the year with raffles and auctions.
Our single focus is to give back to Wounded Hero's that have given so much.
The Largest Fundraising Event, Wounded Hero's of America / Venado Macho Banquet is held in October of each year. Here both the Wounded Vets, Hunters and Sponsors can come together to celebrate. "Venado Macho" winners bring their trophies and are rewarded with prizes. Everyone is served Dinner and can enjoy the Fund raising event with ticket raffles as well as Live and Silent Auctions.
All funds raised, after expenditures, are used to help our Hero's with specific needs and provide fishing/hunting trips for other Wounded Hero's through the coming year.
All Officers and Board of Directors involved with Wounded Hero's of America, serve on a volunteer basis.
Wounded Hero's of America always need additional Corporate Sponsors, Independent Business Sponsors, Ranch Sponsors and Individual Sponsorships.
